You’ve been flagged! Postings of the French Flag on Social Media

Freedom statement or a fad statement?

Paris? That’s in France right? Or do we still call the nation that invented syphilis Freedom? Not too long ago, America aborted its admiration for all things Freedom, ahem French, faster than the University of Alabama homecoming queen did that mistake with the ‘black-as-night’ starting linebacker before she went home for the summer. American government officials lambasted the freedom hating French for spoiling our bloody, mega-expensive surprise party for Iraq. I bet they are hating that decision now. If only they jumped on our war train with no tracks back then. Today, the French are reaping the results of their well-thought out pacifism. They surely regret leaving Uncle Sam holding the heavy bag of war that may have our college students screaming in the streets when the government is no longer able to indebt them with loans.

Bush, the genius that he was, prophesied to the world that his ‘war on terror’ would be proven correct within 25 years. It only took France 15 to see his vision. Riddled by four explosions that killed over 150 people, France is coping with the wake of yet another terrorist attack that brings a civilized country down to its knees. But fret not France! Americans are here to deliver heartfelt sympathy in much the same way they did for the Freedmen who were lynched on an average of 189 persons a year in Georgia from 1887-1889. Other southern states had the respect to keep white sponsored terrorism down between 132-165 persons a year. For God sakes Georgia! We’re trying to run a democracy here. The terror targeted for freed blacks was consoled by complete government inaction and buttressed by heart wrenching appeals by wealthy white apologists who guaranteed their support to slowly change the system. Within 100 years, they exclaimed, we will all be assured that no one will be able to publicly murder black citizens and get away with it. This same sympathy is now headed over the Atlantic and straight to you!

Americans, infuriated by the attacks, were feverish to post online connections to the afflicted European country. Americans, black, brown and white alike recounted their connections to France to show their deep commonality. Americans posted memories like the time their sister studied in Toulouse from 1998-2000 or when they flew over France 4 years ago on their way to German Oktoberfest. One conscious black coed from New Orleans was particularly grieved at a campus vigil, mourning for France given her 1/64 French blood. Lucky for her that her great, great, great grandmother was a mulatto prostitute available for French aristocrats traveling through the Crescent City for the night. Then, as if Napoléon himself captured the White House, French flags were everywhere. Black millennials especially meaning to show their colorblind spirit, wept for France as if Grandmama just came in the room with a fresh switch. I was surrounded by so many black people holding French flags that I thought France was giving reparations to every Black nation it colonized.

The superficial pity-party was so thick online that those unable to discern the colors of the French flag posted pictures of baguettes and Roger Federer as their profile lead. But there always has to be one. That cantankerous, rational American that simply posts some perspective to the conformists posing as sympathizers. One insensitive clod mentioned that the city of Chicago maintains 600 murders a year and there are no flags on Facebook for them. To the masses sending their energy to Paris as if Goku was forming a Spirit Bomb above the Eiffel Tower, he calmly stated that most of you have family or friends there right now, yet you mention no awareness to that daily threat. Another prick actually challenged all these scourges of terrorism at once. He argued that these sensationalists, if presented with the very politics and economics required to end terrorism worldwide, would openly oppose them, posting this time the American flag, (for some maybe the confederate flag), screaming “Let’s keep America the same!”

How do we know this? After all, Americans hearts tend to swell like a ratty sponge soaking up blood before all injustices, right? Of course they do! So, before race-hungry white liberals scratch their itch by calling me a reverse-racist, let’s review the sympathy toward one of America’s greatest opponents of terror in his own land, the land of democracy. Now, I have to make one disclaimer to culturally sensitive and insensitive readers. Comparing current events to historical events is not equating said events. It merely attempts to highlight possible parallels or similarities in happenings separated by any number of years, decades or even centuries. Ok, are you still with me? Got a firm grip on that lynching rope? Good then, let’s begin.

From Reconstruction to the Great Depression, well over 3000 black Americans were lynched. Many disfigured, and charred bodies were openly displayed in church yards, courthouses, residential homes and anywhere else people could congregate. So by now, you may know I am talking about the black experience in America, which doesn’t really count in the minds of white government officials, white Christians or white historians writing public school textbooks, but bear with me anyway. The violence wasn’t random either unlike today’s common drive-bys. Black politicians, clergy, teachers and activists were openly targeted to send a message of fear and inferiority to Emancipated blacks. Americans at-large were utterly distraught and displayed their concerns by simply going on with their daily lives.

So, in the decades after the Great Depression, there became rumblings of protest movements throughout the country. Charles Hamilton Houston, quite possibly the greatest legal mind of the 20th Century began challenging the ‘separate but equal’ doctrine in the Supreme Court. Black churches espoused freedom in sermons and local demonstrations despite being burned to the ground by American terrorists. By the late 1950’s, tens of thousands of blacks (or Negroes as we were labeled then) began the most ballyhooed nonviolent revolution in American history. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (I trust you all know the name) became its spokesman and champion. By 1967 however, after being stabbed himself and having his house bombed with his wife and children in tow years earlier, he began to develop some misgivings towards American sympathy directed at his goals and his people. He expressed that his greatest frustration with America was not sitting black folk down at white lunch counters, as portrayed in every slanted portrayal of him and his ultimate aim for civil rights. His greatest frustration was his attempt to end the racialized poverty that served as racism’s strongest ally.

America’s resistance instantaneously defeated his dream. By integrating America’s lunch counters, department stores, banks and other institutions, King knew he opened the door for the precious black dollars that previously stayed within the black community, to now roam free through white-owned institutions. No doubt, black American integration boosted the American economy significantly. White Americans would be grateful and now work to end this strife once and for all he surmised. So King began to advocate that the added wealth that blacks had given to this country since 1619, under the most brutal of conditions, now needed to be given back to America’s poor to end the strife of bloody, degenerate white racism. Well, we all know how sympathetic Americans responded to Dr. Kng's practical solution for ending white terrorism here at home don’t we.

France, like every other civilized Western nation, has a similar history of wicked racism, colonialism and imperialism. North and Central Africans and Middle Easterners, labeled as ‘Orientals’ for centuries, have unmeasured grievances against French authority and rightfully so. Also, like most Western nations, grievances by the people of color who were raped, exploited and demonized are regarded as “living in the past” by French and English governments, thus labeled invalid and easily dismissed. French brutality in Algiers, Mozambique, Tunisia and many other countries is whitewashed by the over-sympathy of politically correct Americans more interested in appearing humane than fighting for real justice. Even contextualizing the reason ‘terrorism’ exists in the first place is labeled unpatriotic and divisive by the same liberal white youth befriending displaced minorities on social media worldwide. Hell, scroll through my Facebook account and you will see examples of this unstoppable trend.

Moreover, French colonialism is egregiously justified by narrow-minded, integrated minorities living in constant fear that if they ever take sincere pride in the cause of their ancestors, and stand up as men and women for truth, then they’d lose the company and patronizing affection of their white liberal friends. How could they post arm and arm with their non-racist white buddies with a developed sense of self and history? Damn, who would they date? So they post solidarity with the French, in part expressing genuine sympathy, but also to toe the politically correct “you’re one of us now, so you better think and feel like us” posturing. Such posing is certainly unforgivable given the current and historic violence in Nigeria that is getting less coverage than an ass-less bikini. Sub-Saharan nations require the exposure from their displaced descendants, most especially now than ever, but contemporary black and brown millenials poke fun at the “booga-booga” nations out of their politically correct pressure and cowardice to appease the Western culture they now see as their birthright. Western governments, assured in the docility from descendants of their most maligned victims, tell their citizens with a straight face that they will ‘do something about it’ although the poverty, state-sponsored police and political violence in addition the marginalization of all non-Western cultures are increasing worldwide. These are the exact conditions that create terrorism in the first place.

Trading murder for murder is wrong and will not be justified in this blog, nor anywhere else. Secondly, to all hipster blacks, I am not denouncing you all as sellouts on the appearance of posting a French flag. But scroll through your posts and determine if you promote your own culture as vehemently as you promote others’. Our enemy is not the cheeky hippie drawing the peace sign on their Converse skippers and Jansport backpack. Count them as an ally if they sincerely respect your humanity outside of your never-ending validation of their Western culture. But to validate Western hegemony through your silence or support and to also turn your back on history to promote a negative peace between us and them simply encourages extremism as the most logical redress of grievances for isolated groups maintaining fidelity to the wrongs of history. When good people, educated people turn cowards in everyday life, it leaves terror as the only spokesperson for the voices of those who can no longer defend themselves. I am sorry for the victims of terrorism and am also sorry for the fear and insecurity it causes those still living. But given that no one stands up for what is right anymore, it makes us all potential victims. If anything, post a flag for that.
